Study in the UK
The UK offers a wealth of educational and training opportunities, and for international students the chance to master English, the global language of business, through immersion in the daily life and culture of the country in which it was born, home to almost 60 million native speakers.
Independent Colleges
The UK's private colleges, in particular the 230+ colleges accredited by BAC, often excel in providing highly specialised programmes of professional education and vocational training, as well as preparing students for a pathway towards a university degree course. Many independent colleges also cater specifically for international students and so will be well placed to help with their particular challenges in making an application, securing entry clearance into the UK and adapting to the new environment.
Choosing a BAC-accredited college
Choosing a BAC-accredited college in the UK will ensure that you are enrolling with a legally compliant, educationally orientated institution which has been thoroughly inspected by independent experts in the field. If you are coming from outside Europe, it will also ensure that your chosen college is acceptable to Entry Clearance Officers when you apply for your UK student visa.
N.B. From 2009, unaccredited private colleges in the UK will not be allowed to enrol visa students, under the new Points-Based System announced by the Home Office.
Studying for a degree
Many BAC-accredited colleges offer programmes of higher education including Bachelor degrees, Masters, Higher National Diplomas etc. Accredited colleges may offer only genuine degree programmes leading to awards by accredited universities or awarding bodies (based in the UK or overseas). We have recently published a definitive list of BAC-accredited colleges which offer such higher education programmes in formal partnership with a university, and will be adding to it as colleges complete the verification process. See the current list here: http://www.the-bac.org/colleges/directory/he/
WARNING
Take care to thoroughly research your intended course of study, because not all degrees that are advertised are in fact recognised by UK employers and government, as explained by a useful page on the government's website: Avoiding bogus degrees.
While not all degrees may be quite as they seem, picking a BAC-accredited college should give you confidence in your choice - and if you have any doubts, feel free to contact us for more information.
