FIND A COLLEGE

Seminar series in Autumn 2007
This autumn, the BAC will be presenting a series of one-day seminars exploring the issues which most often cause colleges to fail accreditation or re-accreditation. We have secured the services of Mr Robin Laidlaw, Prof. Stephen Bristow and Dr Edward Ferrett to conduct the seminars, drawing on their experience of inspecting colleges for the BAC and upon their specialist knowledge. Each seminar will cost £95 per delegate (price includes VAT, lunch and refreshments). A booking form is attached.
"An Introduction to Accreditation"
This seminar will be held on Tuesday 2nd October, led by Mr Robin Laidlaw.
Mr Laidlaw has been with the BAC for over 14 years, latterly as Head of Inspection Services, and has just completed the latest revision of the BAC Accreditation Handbook.
"Falling Foul of the Law - a guide to business law for Colleges"
This seminar will be held on Tuesday 16th October, presented by Prof. Stephen Bristow.
Prof. Bristow is a Council member and Senior Inspector with BAC. He has been a Director of a number of private and charitable companies in the UK and Malaysia and is a member of the Board of Examiners of the Institute of Directors, acting as their Chief External Examiner. He is a Past President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and a member of the Institute of Business Consulting.
"Health and Safety in the College"
This seminar will be held on Tuesday the 30th October, presented by Dr Edward Ferrett.
Dr Ferrett is an engineer and a former HEFCE inspector, a BAC Inspector and Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. He is Vice Chairman of NEBOSH, the National Examination Board for Occupational Safety and Health, and joint-author of two best-selling books on the subject.
"Provider Or Partner? - How to get the best out of your University relationship"
This seminar will be held on the 27th November, presented by Prof. Stephen Bristow.
Prof. Bristow has also held Personal Chairs at the Universities of Wolverhampton and Glamorgan and was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Glamorgan before becoming Principal and Chief Executive of Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology in 1996. He has seen University-College partnerships from both sides, having developed Glamorgan's franchise and outreach network during the 1990s and Shrewsbury College's membership of the Staffordshire University Regional Federation in the early part of this decade.
I hope that you or one of your senior colleagues will take this chance to attend what promise to be very useful and informative seminars. Since places are limited to 20 by the capacity of the Council Room, I would urge you to book early. Although places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, they will be limited to one place per college to encourage as large a number of colleges as possible to be represented.
Any questions you may have about these seminars should be directed to Tom Richards by emailing seminars@the-bac.org or calling 020 7447 2590
