"Improving a University Partnership:
How to get the best out of your University relationship"
This seminar will usually be led by Professor Steve Bristow, with a presentation by a QAA representative.
Prof Bristow runs the consultancy firm Open Direction Ltd and has been a Council member and Senior Inspector with BAC for a number of years before taking on the role of Head of Inspection Services in September 2007. He has held Personal Chairs at the Universities of Wolverhampton and Glamorgan and was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Glamorgan before becoming Principal and Chief Executive of Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology in 1996. He is a Past President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and been instrumental in contributing to and leading partnerships between Universities, Colleges and other organisations in education and beyond. He was for many years an active member of the Council of Validating Universities and a member of the QAA group which produced the first QAA Code of Practice Guidelines on Collaborative Provision.
QAA is the body which oversees franchising agreements between universities and colleges. Their representative will give a presentation on franchise agreements in the UK and answer questions from the delegates.
This seminar is designed to cover the principal areas of effective partnership working between BAC-accredited Colleges and their chosen University partners.
The objectives of the seminar are to:
- Outline the key types of University/College partnership relationship
- Provide delegates with insights and examples of successful partnership management
- Give an opportunity for professional networking with other delegates and with BAC officers
and will include aspects of partnership work in
- managing teaching and learning, including link tutor arrangements
- assessment and external examining
- student services and support, including virtual learning environments
- professional development
- research and consultancy
- marketing and promotion
- institutional and strategic development
