Inspectors

BAC has an inspectorate of some 80 independent, experienced and trusted inspectors upon whom it calls when making an institutional inspection. Inspection teams are selected on the basis of qualities which include sector experience (especially in quality assurance at a senior level) and subject specialism to ensure a level of knowledge appropriate to each particular institution.

The Chief Inspector maintains oversight of the entire inspection process and advises on the ongoing development of inspection and accreditation policies and processes, including team selection, monitoring of reports, inspector training and the ongoing development of inspection processes and criteria.

The Chief Inspector is supported by four other Senior Inspectors, who, in addition to carrying out a large proportion of Reporting Inspector work, participate in inspector training and induction and contribute to the development of the inspection processes and criteria.

A further 30 or so Reporting Inspectors are responsible for the on-site management of inspections and the production of the inspection reports which are presented to the Accreditation Committee.

The additional 50 or so specialist inspectors available to BAC form an invaluable part of the inspection team, providing the Reporting Inspector with a different perspective in the assessment of an institution and often allowing specialist academic insight into its teaching provision.
